1. New Policy for DVC Resales

   Here is a copy of the notice that was made public to Disney Vacation Club® Members on the Member website regarding changes to the membership benefits policy, with an effective date of March 21, 2011.

   New Policy Announced for Re-sale Purchases

   Direct Purchase Benefits Dear Sir or Madam; 

   From time to time, you may be offered Incidental Benefits (as defined under applicable law) or other benefits.  These products and services may not be transferred, except upon written approval of DVD, and may be limited, modified, supplemented, or terminated at any time.  If you sell your Ownership Interest, these products, benefits and services do not automatically transfer to your buyer.  Beginning March 21, 2011, Members who purchase their Ownership Interest in any DVC Resort from a person or entity other than directly from DVC shall not be able to use the Vacation Points associated with that Ownership Interest for reservations or stays through the Incidental Benefits known as the Adventurer Collection, Concierge Collection, or The Disney Collection.  Do not purchase your Ownership Interest in reliance on your ability to transfer these products, services and Incidental Benefits if you sell your Ownership Interest or based upon their continued availability.  Please refer to the Member Benefits Guide for terms and conditions.

   Does it affect you? (DVC Owner Opinions)

   Recently Disney changed their policy on the sale of DVC contracts on the secondary market. Under the new policy, members who purchase from anyone other than Disney, on or after March 21, 2011, will not be eligible to use their DVC points to make reservations in the Concierge Collection, the Disney Collection or the Adventurer Collection. Those Vacation Points will instead be valid only for reservations at Disney Vacation Club resorts, as well as for RCI® exchanges, Club Cordial and Club Intrawest.

   Now the question at hand is–what does all this actually mean to you? DVC Owners Opinions:

   “At the end of the day I see little real world loss here. Using points to book at non-DVC resorts on property at Disney World and Disneyland are not the best use of your DVC points. The Adventures by Disney and Disney Cruise options for points are ASTRONOMICAL! As an example–Our Oct 13 DCL 3-day cruise would cost us 253 points, more than our annual allotment, but cost us only $1800. Assuming a standard DVC rental price of $10 a point, using my points for the cruise would cost me $700!”… Read more
