For the first time in 20 years, Disney officials have submitted plans to the city of Anaheim to build a new luxury hotel. Could this be the next Disneyland DVC resort? We sure hope so!
This would be the fourth hotel at the Disneyland resort and a much needed addition to Disney’s portfolio. Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa is currently the only Disneyland hotel with Disney Vacation Club units, and a very small allotment of them.
This new 700-room hotel will be designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, the same designers and engineers who come up with Disneyland’s attractions, with construction slated to begin in 2018. The project should be completed by 2021, Disney officials said.
The proposed hotel will take advantage of a city incentive program that allows any four-star or four-diamond hotel to keep 70% of the bed taxes for 20 years. The tax represents 15% of the nightly rate. The tax break, which was created last year to promote the construction of high-end hotels in the city, will allow Disney to retain about $267 million over the next 20 years to build this luxury hotel on what is now a parking lot near the theme park.
We’re keeping our fingers-crossed for some new Disney Vacation Club Villas!
